A memorable night with Scarlet Rivera and She’s In The Trees
Moments of beauty and magic at Madrid´s Sala El Sol
A few days after Bob Dylan had been warmly received by the people of Madrid, it was the turn of Scarlet Rivera – the legendary violinist who featured on Dylan´s album ‘Desire’ almost fifty years ago – to perform in the renowned and intimate setting that is Sala El Sol.
Fans enjoyed a magical evening, opened by British band She’s In The Trees, who mesmerized the audience with their ethereal melodies of intoxicating beauty. Amy Scott-Samuel and Jules Watts performed a repertoire of songs that included singles previously released through this record label, along with a handful of gorgeous new songs that made us dream of their splendid future.
Scarlet Rivera, that girl with adorable dimples who wandered distractedly down 13th Street in the Village one afternoon in 1975 is now an equally beautiful woman with a thousand enticing stories to tell. Her connection with the public was instantaneous and they professed their love for her as she shared with them evocative vignettes of memorable experiences, and sang and played the immortal songs of her old friend Bob, and those of other great creators of that glorious era of popular music.
Scarlet Rivera, with her resounding, bluesy voice, moved us – accompanied by Bradley Lauretti – with fantastic recreations of ‘Señor’ and ‘Born in Time’, of ‘Dark Eyes’ by Patti Smith and ‘Suzanne’ by Leonard Cohen, along with many other gems. Her own songs – like the extraordinary ‘Sacred Wheel’ – also shone brightly on this unforgettable night which was capped off with a chilling rendition of ‘Knockin on Heaven’s Door’.
